Last Friday of every month after Isha prayers

Purpose

To nurture the young Muslims in Australia by providing a route to gain Islamic knowledge and giving them opportunities to reflect and act upon it. This will help develop their character and righteousness, and protect them from religious and worldly loss, by the will of AllahSWT.

Our purpose is derived from the statement of AllahSWT in Surah Al Asr:

وَالْعَصْرِ

إِنَّ الإِنسَانَ لَفِي خُسْرٍ

إِلاَّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا بِالصَّبْرِ

By time, indeed man is in loss, except those who have faith and do righteous deeds, and enjoin one another to [follow] the truth, and enjoin one another to patience.

Significance of Youth in Islam

Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, scholars, professionals and future of any society. The development of youth is very important to create a robust and dynamic society. In Islam, the image of youth has been very strong, positive and full of compassion. There are several example mentioned in the Qur’an when youth have played a significant role and even provided moral support to their leaders, parents and communities. Some of the examples of youth mentioned in the Qur’an include Prophets Ibrahim Alaihissalam, his son Prophet Ismael Alaihissalam, Prophet Yusuf Alaihissalam, Maryam (mother of Isa Alaihissalam) and the Ashab-e-Kahf (the people of the Cave). Through this program, UMMA will organise learning sessions, to build knowledge about the lives and contributions of these youth in Islam.

In addition to the Qur’an, there is a Hadith in which Prophet MuhammedPBUH said that seven kinds of people who will be sheltered under the shade of God on the Day of Judgment; one of them will be “A young man who passed his youth in the worship and service of God” (Riyadh-us-Saliheen, Hadith 376).

In Islam, the contribution of youth is very much encouraged and needed for the following purposes:

  • Muslim youth can contribute to all societies in right ways, especially Western countries, through gaining a true message of Islam. They can contribute by giving their time, talent and energy to help the community and bring a positive change in society.
  • A good understanding of Islam is essential for young Muslims, as it will help develop character and guide their moral principles. Our youth program aims to support youth, so they become compassionate, honest and kind members of society.
  • Through their time, talent and capabilities, youth can live a purposeful life and serve the Lord AllahSWT.
  • Youth is the golden period of life, during which an individual chooses a path. If they are having a good foundation of Islam, they will be successful both in this world and hereafter. Youth may get distracted sometime in their lives but if they have a good foundation of Islam, they will come back to Islam.
  • The youth is the “make it” or “break it” stage of our life, but it all depends on how young Muslim are being raised. The youth program UMMA is trying to run will provide support and guidance for young Muslims to help them flourish.
